To think that I was a little girl in the background watching the movie The Bodyguard after I revisited it this weekend kind of upsets me. It is such a masterpiece that I should have enjoyed it from childhood until now.
Anyway, this is a new feature of the site, the open-thread, talking about current IR topics. This one is going to be about The Bodyguard since it is rumoured that there is going to be a remake of this movie...which I am completely against.
The original was a classic and masterpiece for two reasons that are described via Clutch Magazine.
1) The interracial love interest between the two stars was one of the first scripted without the entire storyline being dedicated to the difference between the two and a race relations debate.
2) The film also proved that a black female lead could not only make a hit film, she could headline one that earned $441 million worldwide.
The Bodyguard Revisited Notes
[After Frank gets the situation explained to him from Rachel’s managers] Ewwwwwwwwwww! The pyscho jerked off on her fake bed??
[Rachel is playing with the samurai sword and Frank takes her scarf] Love the scarf-knife foreplay
[Crush’ed: Talking about the above scene and the fight with Tony] There is a lot of knife foreplay in this movie
Fave dialogue!!
[AFTER DATE SEX-TIME he is saying that he can’t protect her in a relationship].
Frank: “Well you can live with it or you can fire me”
Rachel: “But I can’t fuck you?!” [Crush’ed: I’m not really sure what punctuation I need there at the end.]
[Redhead in Green dress comes up to him at Rachel’s Academy post party]
Redhead: “I’ve been watching you all night from across the room”
Frank: “Well you should go back there and keep watching” [Crush’ed: I love this because I said it in my head to her at the exact same moment].
Overall comments:
Rachel is SOOOOO MEAN/PUSHY! But I like how she kind of “allowed” him to chase her or set up the building blocks for him to chase her.
Even though she shows her anger first, I love that she is so vulnerable (no strong black woman bullshit here) all of her flaws are out there and human and grimy and I love that about her character. And the fact that she still has dolls since I have teddies so there is an almost child-like version of her even though she is so adult (child, career etc)
I’m surprised throughout guy like yourself, why say no to one sister when you could have fucked them both? LMFAOOOOOOOOOOO this sisters are *TOO FORWARD* but I feel like Nicki looks on from the sideline and then tries to see if she can get a piece of what Rachel has instead of fighting for her own thing. In real life I could compare the similar situation of how I felt about Beyonce and Solange. First I liked Beyonce better because I thought that Solange was doing Beyonce’s thing but not as well as the original but now Solange is doing her own thing with more flavour/realer so I’m digging her stuff. Nicki is like the opposite of Solange because she is not brave enough for the spotlight.
