While everyone else is watching The Vow and movies like Red Tails (that have no black women in it whatsoever) on Valentine’s Day especially I will be watching Joyful Noise (again because why watch it just once?) I will be buying that movie on DVD as well. One of my favourite bloggers writes why to watch this movie here.
I think that there are always some issues that separate the
blogging community who currently blog about similar aspects of black women’s
issues but I always go through the same sort of decision making process when it
comes to media. Before I invest time in a TV show I make sure of three
things:
1. There are black women on the show.
2. Black women are put in a positive light on the TV show.
3. Check if there is potential for interracial couplings on
the show.
Everyone else is on a “Me First” mentality for 2012 and I think that it is about time to do the same thing. I will be integrating this angle into the blog from now on. Our lives and love lives are the most
important period.

Why thank you for linking to me and calling me one of your favorite bloggers! {{Hugs}}
ReplyDeleteLike you I will buy the DVD for Joyful Noise. It's been a long time since I wanted to buy a film and the soundtrack.
And great post for stating how we need to support ourselves so clearly and simply.
Take care.
I will try to catch this movie! Btw, what do you think of the Sam and Mercedes pairing in Glee? I am so glad that they gave Mercedes a love interest FINALLY and one of them happens to be a cute blonde white boy <3
ReplyDeleteI just found out about the pairing myself (thanks for the heads up) but I love the song that they sang together before kissing -- so cute! Plus, I made a post for it as well. I'm really excited about this because I was waiting for Mercedes to have a coupling but didn't see it before which is why I never invested time in Glee...until now of course.~~
ReplyDelete@GoldenAh No problem!~~ Exactly, what I didn't understand why it was posed as such a hard question when it came to supporting movies like Red Tails. It is that simple: "Black women (and our interests) first!" Thanks for commenting. :D
